When I first looked over the list of names set out in Dad's Memorandum to Dr. Riley, two names jumped off the page immediately. The first is "Osborn, C." That entry refers to my mother, Claudia Osborn. The other is "Bass, M.", a co-worker and close friend of my mother, whose full name is Mary Lou Bass. Many of the other surnames sound familiar, but I cannot connect them with certainty to anyone I know personally.

I would like very much to know more about Mary Lou Bass and the rest of my mother's co-workers. I want to know what their stories. Where did they come from, and how was it that they came to Oak Ridge and found work at Y-12. What were their lives like both on and off the job. What happened to them after February 19, 1947. How long did they live and what illnesses did they experience over the years?

I doubt anyone whose name appears on the list below is still alive. Unfortunately, anything I learn about them will have to come from second-hand sources: their children and grand-children. Nevertheless I will be grateful for whatever information can come my way. It is my hope that by some great stroke of luck some descendant or two of these workers will someday stumble on this page, discover the name of a loved one, and contact me to share what they know.

The table near the bottom of this page sets out the names of the fifty-four workers. The first column shows the names as they appear on the memo, that is, the surname followed by the first letter of the worker's first given name. The subsequent columns contain names I have found in early Oak Ridge phone books, 1950 Census, and Find-a-Grave, that might correspond to the names on the memo.
